For people getting started

edited September 2009 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8
I’ve just started to play around with Vanilla and it is exactly what I have been looking for.
Now if only I knew even a little bit about PHP.

I’ve looked at the documentation on Vanilla 1 and I’ve been through these forums but for the life of me I can’t find any simple explanations of how to ‘get started’ using Vanilla.
I’m comfortable enough with editing css and xhtml, but PHP is another story altogether.
Could somebody perhaps provide a quick little tutorial on doing such things as:
Using your own website’s header ie- how can we put an extra div (or 2) at the top of each page so that we can add such things as logo and some site navigation etc
Also, if I want to add some links into the footer (or even my own footer from website) how would I go about this.
Are foot, head and menu the only PHP files the only ones that I need to edit?
Any help is appreciated.
