An introduction banner explaining what the site is about; which goes away once signed in? eg; the one on http://foursquare.com/

    Did you try to use Messages? It may not be what you are looking for but you can add your own text and have it display in different areas. Members can dismiss it.

    Messages works, sort of. But site intro some thing to the sort of a 'carousel' images changing' with latest posts.
