Can VF run on SQL Server backend?

I am a newbee.
I read in some documentation that it is possible to run Vanilla Forums using MS SQL Server as the back-end.
I would appreciate any links explaining how to do it (? ODBC or otherwise ?) & potential disadvantages / caveats.

    Two db questions in one day! Unfortunately Vanilla cannot run on MS SQL and we don't have any plans of supporting it.
