As I stated in the link mentioned: It worked like a charm for me.

It works. But I think it would be nice to have a button to manually hide just these predefined categories. Something like in the "OnlyRead" plugin which you also wrote.
Our forum for example: most categories are for normal discussions, but two categories are basically classified ads which some (most) users don't need and have trouble sorting them out. Such button would solve this easily.
