The core of both the hosted and downloaded versions are the same.

With the hosted version you get:

    • An application optimized for speed. If you are expecting any scale we are going to be able to handle the load better than a self-hosted solution.
    • Some additional features such as badges and reactions.
    • Support.

With the self-installed version you get:

    • A forum you install and maintain yourself.
    • If you like to tinker and know how to code then you can do whatever you want.
    • But if you break your forum then you've got to fix it.

Couple of years ago ... in the Win95 days... I went through a couple of files on my hard disk... creating some space..

I deleted the system32 directory, because it took up too much space!

If you havent broken your software you arent trying hard enough

    Another t-shirt opportunity!

I did too! replaced it with freebsd, and then linux.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

  • i've seen the hosted solution, somehow it's too expensive..

Its really not that expensive if you add up all of the costs associated with self hosting with even reasonably similar capacity.

That said, I self host... but i do that because i like the control i have over the software and hardware environment... not because its cheaper.
