  • ok. Maybe I'll try and run it w/o registration approval. Thank you so much!! Wondering...I just went through all 25 pages of plugins looking for a captcha plugin ??? None?

  • lol. Never mind. I'm just now setting it up. :)

captcha is not a plug in per say, it comes with the vendor package. Registration Approval is meant to filter out applicants, real people that you may not want. Most people won't bother joining if it is too difficult.

I did not want to limit potential members that much. So I decided to try the basic registration with BotStop and went from 200 no email confirm bot applicants to nothing at all.

To further filter the type of people you can make the question harder. But it really works to keep bot applicants at bay with only basic plus captcha as a bonus stop gap.

I've uploaded a fixed version to https://github.com/dfabulich/botstop and attached it to this post. I have to say, this thread is totally illegible, because it kept linking to http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/comment/168659/#Comment_168659 but it should have been linking to http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/comment/167592/#Comment_167592 which is where all of the magic happens.

I agree and fixed it. Hope you come back and make more fixes and plugins?

There was an error rendering this rich post.

I think you've got things a bit incorrect in your fixed zip, but if you tested it with all registrations and I am wrong let me know.

I have to say, this thread is totally illegible, because it kept linking to

the reason it was illegible because the final comment (178015) was split from the discussion and put into oblivion.

Essentially you copied my modifications from the information in the posts, but the changes I suggested in the post were modified with added fixes and already put into another post here...

the other thing is the reason the register approval was not combined into the zip as you have is because unless you make the appropriate changes to the other registrations methods your zip will probably not work correctly with other registrations and lead to frustration. But if you tested, my bad.

And the reason I put this in my zip is so people would be able to distinguish between the proper versions.

'Version' => '1.0.2.1 - with randomization mod by Peregrine for RegisterApproval method only for 2.0.18.x',

I also removed the closing php tag in my mod.

I'll post the mods again on this thread the same zip from:

    http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/comment/178015/#Comment_178015

    once again

    • Download the original botstop plugin if you are using captcha, basic, or invitation methods.

    • Download the attached zip in this comment, if you are using registration approval.

    • Don't mix and match the original plugin with the attached zip - use one or the other.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.
