Why is the requirement to use this plugin v2.2.x. I had to change 'RequiredApplications' => array('Vanilla' => '2.2.x') to 'RequiredApplications' => array('Vanilla' => '2.1.x') before it could be enabled.

The plugin depends on the base_links_handler event (https://github.com/vanilla/vanilla/blob/master/library/core/class.format.php#L1021-L1023) which is not present in Vanilla 2.1.x and below. The plugin will therefore only work in Vanilla 2.2 and above.

@Kasper I tried it and the embedding worked can i use it now? (incase of any security issues).
That's odd... Which version of Vanilla are you using and what did you embed?
@Kasper I am using the latest version and I just entered a youtube url and it embedded it automatically
Ah, makes sense; YouTube and Vimeo embeds are handled by Vanilla, not the OEmbed plugin.

I am facing same issue. Uploaded the plugin to server. But it's not coming up in Dashboard>Plugins. Using 2.1.8.
As stated on the plugin page the plugin is not compatible with Vanilla 2.1.x.

Nope, the plugin relies on an event not introduced until Vanilla 2.2.

2.1.8 is the most current version of Vanilla.
I'm just confused how anyone can use the plugin, period.

2.18 is the latest stable open source release from Vanilla.
There are beta and even alpha versions on github, but they are NOT recommended for production use.
I think Vanilla hosted sites are probably using 2.2, but it hasn't been released as a stable open source version yet.
