User Role Assignment

When a User applies to the site, I am not able to assign them specific role upon approval. They simply are grouped into a default role that I have set up rather than the role of my choice.I have to then go back to Roles& Registration to assign them this role.

Via Vanilla, vanilla - There is nothing per se that allows you to assign different roles during approval process. it goes to the default role you choose.
you could either.
change the default role here.

then approve each user you want to that role.
