Theme Coding Standard?

Do all themes must follow this coding standard: http://docs.vanillaforums.com/developers/contributing/coding-standard/ or we're freely to do our own such as tab instead of space for indenting, etc.?

No, but they are lenient up to a certain degree...

  • I've missed the last part:

View files are excluded from this standard. You SHOULD try to follow as many rules as possible.

So I guess it's NOT really mandatory to follow =)

Great that you are even considering to follow those standards ;) But look at the section in the documentation where you've found it: developers -> contribution. So if you want to write code that should be part of Vanilla, you have to follow those standards.
Otherwise , as vrijvlinder already said, you are free to do whatever you want.
