It is certainly possible to do so by editing the table entry using something like phpMyAdmin.
An admin can do anything or moderators with permissions. If you want to change more than one post at a time, you can do it via your data base.

ok, I am always a little intimidated by MySQL and really no hero in that part. I was hoping there was a GUI option I overlooked thus far...
In my other forum I use discourse and there you can change the owner with a click.
With Author Selector, you can do it if you have rights permissions by using the option flyout on a discussion.
