Sort topic thread by score

Hi,
My video game forum has a new custom field call "score".
This field appears when creating a new discussion and when a member comment on a topic.
I want the topic thread to be sorted by score, the member with the highest score will appear at the top of the thread. Can someone give me some directions on how to do this.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Take a look at this discussion in this forum.
If that doesn't work for you take a look at the bottom of the source of the DiscussionTopic plugin where you can see how I sort the discussion list by topic rather than the last comment date. Note that in the next version of Vanilla the filtering and sorting code will be changed and so the technique I use may not work any more.
