Are you referring to the Articles app? If so, enter text into the Excerpt field of each article to create a short preview of each article in the categories index. There is no "read more" button, but you can click either the title link or the article thumbnail if you set one for each article.

Not sure from your feedback whether you indeed referred to the Articles addon. If not, did you ask for the "More..." functionality in WordPress? There's something similar called Spoilers which I converted to More on my forum.
