i have configured the social login following the instructions but the login is not working at all.
i indeed put the facebook app id and key into the vanilla facebook login settings and do i have to upload some script or codes to my server? i understand do i have to put the code in my website
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/web or vanilla will do this automatically for me?

Many people have been having this issue with jsConnect. It is not entirely known if this problem is your fault or the fault of the Vanilla plugin since not one person in the vanilla staff has helped anyone so far to get this going. So in a sense you are on your own with single sign on since it appears it does not work properly with Open Source considering the many people who have complained about this.
Maybe look at the tutorial section and see if that helps. i know there is a two part tutorial about Js Connect in there.

I had similar problem but i had to download the plugin there https://github.com/vanilla/vanilla/tree/master/plugins/Facebook
i download the php file from github, but still not working and whole website redirected to the github page, very odd

I had the same issue.
@edy123 method worked.
I think we should tell vanilla team to update the download package.
