upgrading to 2.5.1: can't see files uploaded using Advanced Editor

I've been working on upgrading to 2.5.1 and transitioning from using FileUpload to the Advanced Editor.

The problem I'm currently hitting is when I upload files with the Advanced Editor: the files do upload (links are generated, albeit with hashed filenames, which isn't good), but then the attachments don't appear after the post is posted.

Any ideas there?

    Could it be a problem of a custom theme?
    Does it appear before the discussion/comment is posted? Before the author of the post presses the Post button it should be a) visible and b) accessible for the author. Is that true?
