Error on email validation and redirect (WordPress embed)

When a new user registers they receive an email validation link - when this is clicked a notice is displayed in the browser to say the email is validated (image 1). If the VF is embedded in a Wordpress site, the validation notice page redirects immediately to the embed page. The user then sees a an error notice page (Image 2 - we couldn't confirm your email. Check the link in the email we sent you or try sending another confirmation email.)

Help to fix ?

    Any thoughts on a fix ? - cant launch the forums with this error - it will be a trust issue

    Dont want to consider an alternative :-(
