to upgrade or not to upgrade

I'm switching VPS provider due to cost and also better specs.
but torn between
1) updating the software to version 2023.003 from version 2.4
2) just run another php7.2 in parallel with php8.2 to save the trouble.
What do you suggest?

Why are you hesitant to update? I also am but don't have any reasons except unfounded fear of breaking my forum.
I ended up running php7.2 in parallel to save the trouble, my forum is coming from v2.4 and worried that latest version is no longer officially maintained by higher logic. I also had some customization done. e.g. webpush notification, nodejs chat. so I'm not sure how much work I need to exert.
