upgrade from 2.5.1

After a major crash about five years ago that was a nightmare to recover, I've been running my forum on a very old version. How difficult would it be to upgrade to the latest version from 2.5.1?

I'm still in the same position two years later, is there anyone out there who would be happy to help me do this?
The forum is still running however the hosts charges for old PHP support are now untenable so it's a case of either upgrade or shutdown.
Happy to pay.
