Easy for you, hard for me.

I've been searching forums for a week or so trying to figure out why my flash carousel won't work in IE or FF. I finally came across SWFobject.js. I wasn't sure it was for me becasue I have dreamweaver CS3 and supposedly it formats all scripts to work in a multitude of browsers. However, it wasn't working for me. I took out the default code that DW adds and tried SWFobject and I'm closer now than I was before. At least I can see the blue background where my flash is supposed to be. Will you guys take a look at my source and see if there are any formatting errors. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I've saved SWFobject.js in a scripts folder and my flash files and all dependent files are in the root folder. http://www.krudkutter.com/new_template_outdoor.asp Thanks for all your help!

  • I had a problem with swf and it was caused by single quotes vs. double quote. Whatever you have now, try the opposite.
  • Around what? Every attribute in the AS? I was reading some other posts. Am I supposed to have some thing after the "var so" because right now mine looks like this. <script type="text/javascript" src='/scripts/swfobject.js'></script> <div id="flashcontent"> <object width="840" height="440"> <param name="movie" value="outdoor.swf"> <param name="quality" value="high"> <embed src="outdoor.swf" width="840" height="440" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" movie="outdoor.swf" wmode="transparent"></embed> </object> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> var so = new SWFObject("outdoor.swf", "mymovie", "840", "440", "8", "#336699"); so.write("flashcontent"); so.addParam("wmode", "transparent"); </script>
  • I think the problem is that the XML file is not being found.

  • Thanks for the response, but that didn't work. I changed it to the complete url and still no luck. If I can get one of you to check out the source code, I think maybe it's too jumbled with the other scripts on the page. Any suggestion on how to embed them without so much code. I created them in Firefox and exported to dreamweaver. http://www.krudkutter.com/new_template_outdoor.asp

    I am still getting...

    http://www.krudkutter.com/outdoor.xml - Error: Not Found
    ...and...
Error: src="file:///C|/work/krudkutter/mm_menu.js" (seems to be pointing to a local file?)

As for "created them in Firefox" that means nothing, what did you create in Firefox?

If you send me the XML file, I'll create the embed code for you.

  • OK, thanks. I switched the "src='///C|/work....'" to "src='mm_menu.js'" I created the two nav_bars in firefox (mm_menu.js). Here is the xml text: Sorry for all the code, I didn't see any way to trap the code. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <icons> <icon image="HW01.png" ref="HW01_ref2.png" tooltip="MultiPurpose House Wash" content="America's ..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-house-wash?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/HW-MSDS%20(House%20Wash).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/HW_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="CE01.png" ref="CE01_ref2.png" tooltip="Concrete Clean and Etch" content="Cleans..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-concrete-clean-etch?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/CE-MSDS%20(Clean%20&%20Etch).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/CE_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="DC01.png" ref="DC01_ref2.png" tooltip="Driveway Cleaner" content="Contains..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-driveway-cleaner-degreaser?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/DC-MSDS%20(Driveway%20Cleaner).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/DC_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="GC32.png" ref="GC32_ref2.png" tooltip="Gutter Cleaner" content="Removes ..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/item/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-gutter-cleaner/pn-1038?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/GC-MSDS%20(Gutter%20Cleaner)Revised%208%201%2006.pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/GC_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="WW32H.png" ref="WW32H_ref2.png" tooltip="Window Wash" content="Cleans..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/item/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-window-wash/pn-1044?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/WW-MSDS%20(Window%20Wash)Revised%208%201%2006.pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/WW_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="ES01.png" ref="ES01_ref2.png" tooltip="Exterior Siding Cleaner" content="Removes..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-exterior-siding-cleaner?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/ES-MSDS%20(Exterior%20Siding).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/ES_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="RW01.png" ref="RW01_ref2.png" tooltip="Roof Cleaner" content="Cleans ..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/item/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-roof-cleaner/pn-1043?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/RW-MSDS%20(Roof%20Cleaner).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/RW_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="PWC01.png" ref="PWC01_ref2.png" tooltip="Pressure Washer Concentrate" content="No ..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-pressure-wash-concentrate?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/PWC-MSDS%20(Pressure%20Wash%20Concentrate).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/PWC_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="SDG01.png" ref="SDG01_ref2.png" tooltip="Concrete and Driveway Cleaner" content="Contains..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/item/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-concrete-driveway-cleaner/pn-1032?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/SDG-MSDS%20(Driveway%20Cleaner%20Gel).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/DG_tech_data.pdf"/> <icon image="SDF01.png" ref="SDF01_ref2.png" tooltip="Deck and Fence Cleaner" content="Contains ..." url="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/viewitems/outdoor-cleaners-/krud-kutter-deck-fence-cleaner?&forward=1" msds="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/DF-MSDS%20(Deck%20&%20Fence%20Cleaner).pdf" tech="http://krudkutter.thomasnet.com/Asset/DF_tech_data.pdf"/> </icons>
  • Sorry, I'm an idiot. I wasn't putting all of the files on the server by click the blue arrow. I was just saving them to the local folder. I works now. Just a few wrinkles to iron out. Thanks for all of you help!!
  • Happy you got it working.

To "trap" code, put it inside these <code> tags </code>

Nice flash display by the way!
