Groups generally organizes people into areas of interest, where categories organize discussions. So in a group, you could look at all users interested in a certain topic as well as discussions within that topic. A good way of doing it might be to simply have a front end page that shows all people that have subscribed to a…
As the topic says... it'd be nice if you could select just the Categories you want to show up in the list. It'd also be nice if you could weight the box and have it show up above the Category lists instead of being so far down the page.
clarify and show an example what you mean - from which view or screen - from discussion topics. * some of the things you are asking for would be affecting performance in a high use board. e.g. seeing participants in each thread on the discussions view.
not really a solution to the problem - I suspect your problem is browser and bandwidth. You could always navigator buttons in individual discussions with http://vanillaforums.org/addon/pagenavigator-plugin. and you could modify the plugin to add arrows to the discussion topic page.
There is a very very recent topic that one of the Vanilla guys showed how to easily add a class to (i think) the Body element. I think he did it with jQuery. Should be easily utilized once I've figured out which thread it was :-)
@R_J: Roger that. Have a board with 700.000+ comments, also the topics are often with similar keywords, so will the search entries be. It's a 2.0 board i'm running a copy on 2.1+ still configuring the redesign and relaunch of this upgrade. Might be good playfield for testing purpose.
i agree with the guidelines, with the exception, that it need not be complete. no one person knows everything on a given topic. starting a stub with useful information is better than not starting one at all. but not starting one at all is better than starting one with incorrect information.
@indianfootynet I put your question and answer on this page, so I don't have to chase discussion topics. http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/23222/feedback-pledges-and-feature-requests-add-them-here#latest I consider this thread closed now.
@phreak, were you looking for the word strafe? To everyone else, this seems fine for an off topic discussion. If any other company/blog would have written it, would it still be worthy of discussion? How would you react to it? Not all criticism is bad.
