MySQL Database Optimizations
I've done some digging around trying to optimize the Vanilla database, and I think I've taken it as far as I can. At this point I think the only way to speed things up is to get someone who is a very highly skilled MySQL Database Administrator. I know that for a fee you can hire some people at MySQL to come in and show you… -
Re: Vanilla with flatfiles
bergamot - the database is accessed through two classes: SqlBuilder and MySQL. the MySQL class is an implementation of the Database interface. Which means that you can pretty easily go and write a PostgreSQL class that follows the same interface. Then you'd just need to tell the object factory to use the PostgreSQL class… -
Re: STOP TALKING!
Man - I've been going back and reading all of the discussions I missed while working this week, and WOW. I had no idea I'd missed so much. Maybe that's a downside of Vanilla? On other boards I'm content to let things slide, but on here I see those brighter discussion bars and the "new X" and I've just gotta know! -
Re: Alternative uses for Vanilla? Online scrapbook?
It's wierd, but you're totally right. I could turn Vanilla into a ton of different kind of applications. The one that's particularly been on my mind is a bug tracking application. This would be a pretty damn easy conversion, too. I think I'd call a bug tracker "Cilantro" because I flipping hate cilantro and I'm always… -
Re: Rewrite in order.
For the record, I went through the entire framework, people, vanilla, and swell and changed all templates and just about every single class file and function to use single quotes instead of double. We might see a few bugs crop up over the next few days. Also for the record, I noticed a speed increase of appx 0.01 seconds.… -
Re: Vanilla forum front page
You can switch it so that the categories page is first if you want (you can do just about any configuration you want like that with Vanilla). Personally, I don't like having discussions hidden behind categories - which is why it appears this way by default. I understand what you are saying, but just try this for a while… -
Re: adding a page that lives in Extensions, but acts like vanilla
Actually, ithcy, I've created a page in the root of Vanilla for a purpose like this one, except it includes the panel, check it out: http://lussumo.com/community/extension.php If you want to make a completely custom page and keep it within it's own extension folder, just check out that extension.php file to get a good idea… -
Re: Email notification of update to thread
brady: i actually hope nothing else is added to the core. simplicity for once, please. at the same time, i'm betting mark doesn't add much to the core. especially fringe functionality such as this. Four things to be aware of:* I will be removing most of the extensions from the next release. Most extensions will be… -
Re: The next rev
Watch the changelog for new additions & enhancements. Watch the resolved bug list for things that I've taken care of. I plan on getting all of the serious bugs and most (if not all) of the minor bugs fixed for the next rev. In those lists alone, there is so much to do that I haven't even really looked at the suggested… -
Re: Wiki: Started - Advanced Installation auto/manual
I should make a note that the next upgrade to Vanilla will include a big change to the settings.php file. I want to set up localized configurations so that you can take all files from new installations and just drop them on top of existing installations not worrying about overwriting application settings. It should make…
