Restrict membership by email domain?

Want to build a Vanilla install for a school community. Any tips for letting anyone with a certain form of email address (x@school.edu or school.org) join, while no one else can?

    Are you planning to use Vanilla 1 or the forthcoming Vanilla 2?

    We're planning on using Vanilla 1, because as an older product it seems more stable.
