    The 'ear', there's a name for it but it's bugging me now I can't remember the thing :)

    umm... according to my typography book it is actually called ear, don't know if you have some sort of olden english term for it tho.

    Ahh I thought it was a Ligature but it doesn't connect with another letter so an ear it is :). Thanks.

    No no no, ligature is very different thing altogether, ligature is a way of connecting two or more letters together, like many calligraphic handwriting, a good exaple about ligature is W it's two V letters joined together (even tho is is not a true ligature since it is propounced differently than V or VV.)
