Sure Halo 2 sold more than mariokart, but, it's not that wise to start such a comparision WITH THE BEST SELLING GAME TITLE EVER, and who ever wrote that article you are quoting is not wise at all.
The only reason I made such a comparison is because you stated that Mario Kart DS was an "absolute hit". 100,000 copies sold is not an absolute hit this day and age.

The market is passing them by. Since the original NES they have been on a steady decline. Every single system since the NES has had less marketshare and total number of units sold.

It isn't gonna get any better with the Revolution. Those "hot third party developers" aren't gonna spend their time developing for a weaker, less popular system with a different control scheme than the main two.

Those massive handheld sales I'd recon come by a vast majority from kids. I used to work at a daycare, and probably every 1 of 4 kids had a Gameboy of some type. At this point, Nintendo is more of a toy company than anything.

The new control system, while good in concept, will be more annoying than everything. It will be the type of system that you sit down and play for 30 minutes, and after your arm is tired or waving the controller around, you'll set it down and play later. Its just tedious.

Can you imagine what it would be like using computers if we had to use sign language to input everything? Its much more efficient to move just your fingers to control a game than it is to move your entire upper body.

We'll see what Nintendo does, but I don't reckon it will be good. The 360 is already picking up more and more popularity, and if the Revolution launches near or after the PS3 it will be absolutely crushed. I could see console sales as low as 10 million this gen for the Revolution.
• Judging by the sales of other games and sales that DS will have, I think Mario Kart will go somewhere near 1 million sold copies, if Mario Kart is bundled with DS and Nintendo estimates that they will sell 5 million DS consoles, then I think MK sales will raise. It's true that Nintendo sales has declined from console to console, but you might also want to take in consideration that every generation of consoles, there has become a new competitor to bite the market share. And at one point increasing PC gaming and professional gaming ate the share away too. And fine you don't like the Revolution controller, you are entitled to your opinion, but you can't deny the fact that novelty sells consoles. And there IS going to be a pad extension for the controller so you don't have to "move your upper body." Besides, the small wrist movement that I have seen most of the games use for controlling them is basically just the same that you use to move your mouse. Sure I can see you working your upperbody when moving your mouse, but I usually tend to sit down and move my mouse with simple movement of my wrist and shoulder ;) Xenon HAS gained some attenttion, but how it will fare in the Asian market? I don't know about that, it's a hard market, with the large buyer base, and the third party developers that make few of the most best selling games don't like a console that doesn't sell in their homeland.

Novelty sells consoles? It certainly didn't sell Nintendo's horrible failure known as the Virtual Boy.

When you speak of the "Asian market", you are mainly speaking of Japan. The other Asian countries at this point in time are much more favorable to PCs and will be for awhile, due to the cheap cost of a PC.

And the truth is, while Japan was a behemoth 10 or 20 years, ago, its not as big of a deal now. North America is a MUCH larger market and provides the most chance for profit. I'm sure that Japan will love the Revolution (or so I can only assume), but it matters little when the North American and European markets are growing and are huge.
• Novelty sells consoles? It certainly didn't sell Nintendo's horrible failure known as the Virtual Boy. Virtual Boy was a piece of crap. But take DS for example, or GBA Micro, GBA Micro is just the same as other GBAs but still sells like food to the hungry crowd. DS also has strong sales. When you speak of the "Asian market", you are mainly speaking of Japan. The other Asian countries at this point in time are much more favorable to PCs and will be for awhile, due to the cheap cost of a PC. And wouldn't you think that the first one to break the ice on Chinese market would be the undisputed champion of the console world? And judging by how much people all around Asia play games that are Asian made, Xenon won't hit the jackpot there. But PS3 and Revolution both have a good chance.
• I love Nintendo but I agree they've made some bad decisions in the past.
The Revolution looks like they've gone some way to changing that. They're working for the Third Party Developers on this one. That's where they've gone wrong in the past.
I think the revolution will be a big hit, maybe not in the same way as a Playstation or Xbox but I think it will do really well and show that Nintendo haven't completely lost it.
• I am a sour bastard with purpose! :D
• I like Sega Genesis with 32X extension and CD extension!
