Allowing Anonymous Posts
I've seen some older questions (circa 2005, 2006) asking about the allowance of anonymous posters on a vanilla forum. Since the 2.0.14 release I figure it would be a good time to revive that kind of discussion. Is this something that can be built into the core or added on as a module or would I have to edit the core to give guest users permissions to view/post?
Also on my "can we do this" list is a different more customizable kind of "captcha" that's not a third party but a module/application. I'm not too familiar with Vanilla Forums yet so can any veterans chime in with their opinions?
So in short:
Allow anonymous editing how? (core, module)
Captcha as a module w/o 3rd party? (Possible?)
Thanks a bunch!

I agree with both of your topics
Anonymous posting is a feature i would love to see. With two or three different options that the admin can set. like;
100 percent anonymous posting, no authentication
anonymous posting with validation of email address and captcha
the captcha question, i agree with, but i would assume it was easier and faster for the core developers to use a system that was already built and focus on other features that have more importance.
that part doesn't make sense. clarify?
Alternate anti-spam could definitely be done as a plugin or application. I don't recommend trying to develop your own image Captcha though. Hitting the point that's mostly unhackable but still legible is really difficult.
Remember that if you need a new plugin hook or option built into core to accommodate something like this, that's very doable.
+1
that visitors would be able to post discussions as well as comments.
@DanielSchulzJackson: Did you look at this: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/anonymouse-plugin ?
@HalfCat -- thanks for the link!
