Notification methods (other than email)

Hi,

is there already some module or other modification stuff that allows one to setup different ways of notifications than the standard email way? I'm thinking about Twitter, RSS, Jabber/XMMP or anything like that.

Especially Twitter would be the hottest stuff i think ;-)
