What is the scope of the edit permission?

When I add edit permission to a role for a category, what does that allow? Is that a moderator / super-user edit of any post within the category? Or, is that just enabling the ability for a user to edit their own posts (within the constraints of the time settings)?

    It's a moderator ability. For users, see the Advanced menu.
