Bug in private conversations system notifications

Hi all,
I've noticed that when a new conversation between users is started and the initiator deletes a conversation before it is read by the recipient the notification (the little number #1 by the inbox tab) shows up nonetheless. There is no way to get rid of this.
Help or advice would be appreciated.
