New Vanilla user, with a few questions...

edited July 2011 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

Im a first time user of Vanilla forums, I'm normally a user of IPB or vBulletin but with Vanilla's ability to integrate with Wordpress, I have chosen to try and use this for an upcoming site Im creating for a friend.

Now I have a few questions that I would like answered if possible please.

1. I have the integrated wordpress and vanilla using the vanilla plugin and proxyconnect but I have one tiny issue regarding the URL for the vanilla page.

I have vanilla sitting in the follow directory

Now the generated page in wordpress is pointing to this /site/discussions-2, is it possible to set it to simply site/discussions without it going to main vanilla theme?

2. Is it possible to use the Vanilla popup login and registration forms instead of the wordpress ones ?

You put Vanilla in a folder called 'discussions'? The short answer is no, you can't have WordPress and Vanilla both working from the same URL like that. There's probably some sort of magic URL rewriting you can do, but I strongly recommend sidestepping it all and naming your folder something else.

Also, no, you can't use the Vanilla login for what you're doing unfortunately. That integration works by bridging WP users to Vanilla, not vice-versa.

PS: Welcome, Dan! Glad you decided to pick up Vanilla. It's pretty rad. :D

    Hi Lincoln,

Thanks for the reply, yeah I was thinking of simply changing the folder name before installation.

One other thing, is there a plugin ( I have searched to no avail) to display a members avatar on the homepage?

And is there a way to change the template wordpress side to show both catergory and discussions?

Displaying the avatar on the home page is easier to do in your theme than in a plugin. Check out the mobile theme for a good example. Also, start your own custom theme if you haven't yet:
