When will 2.0.18 be released?

edited July 2011 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8
I'd just like to know when the next version of Vanilla will be released. It's been a while since the beta announcement.

I just hope that all that time was spent on some pretty good improvements to the platform. Vanilla is a very unique platform, with some very attractive features (I particularly like the Invite system); however, there are quite a few missing features that I hope will be added soon (hopefully an automated update system (Wordpress, phpBB), and a built-in backup/export tool (Wordpress, phpBB))

I'm very unhappy with Vanilla's slow release cycle. It seems to me that the developers are spending more time advertising their platform, rather than developing it.

I guess they are working on features asked by clients, and having those things working for clients.
Basically, what any business should do to still be in business next month.

But, indeed a beta 3 was announced at least twice and it didn't get through.
With the sql request changes to accomodate memcache, a new beta would be sensible.
And some bugs introduced in 2.0.18 cycle are still open.
  • Considering I'm using it for free, I've got nothing to complain about. Sure it would be nice to know what to expect down the road but I wouldn't go so far as to criticize.

    ^ Irony.

Me too. Difference is, I'm helping (even if just a little) instead of complaining on the community forum.

    Guess you should re-evaluate then.

At the end of the day, if they have to choose between getting 2.0.18 out the door quicker or finishing the Penny Arcade migration, the latter wins and we're all better off for it.

Very cool, congrats to you and the Vanilla guys, and yeah, definitely, I think your "all better off for it" statement is probably quite true.

I am looking forward to the 2.0.18 release though; I've been reading the commit messages to the unstable branch occasionally and I noticed that a lot of the little quirks that exist in 2.0.17 have been fixed in .18.

This raises a good point - I have skills in photoshop/css/html/etc .. just not php type stuff. is there any way I can help? I'd be happy to provide web design type services if it helps contribute.

Yeah, I'd be happy to help, if I could.

I'm more of a power-user, not a programmer. Sure, I can perform basic server maintenance, and manage a Vanilla installation, but my skills don't really extend much further than that.

And sorry if I can get a little complain-y, just a sad force of habit I suppose.

Honestly, I don't know at the moment as I'm not at the heart of their planning. I will definitely keep this in mind though and ping you if I see something.

    No worries. :)
