Not trying to be funny, but...

Why has a board with such great support as this one only have a few user developed themes? Two of which (whilst lovely - soulscape) don't even change that much about the board, and still has the ugly yellow topic listings.

Nggh!

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the forum software and have defended it against countless naysayers, mostly argueing the ugliness of the forum, and the way in which the divs are used - and whilst the actual coding behind the forum is being developed on and constantly improved, themes and styles are things that appear to be completely overlooked!

lech has done a great job with his though, and the Soulscape ones are lovely too.

I think once version 1 is released there'll be a lot more activity in that area; most prople now are probably waiting for the next release to come out before beginning any themes in earnest.
  • countless naysayers? really?
  • I for one am waiting till the release of V1, and have actually several different theme ideas in my mind.
  • Ahhh, well that's fair enough I guess, any idea for the ETA of v1 then?
  • I'll be creating more styles as soon as the XHTML and CSS is finished. I would have started already, but I don't want to have to change it all afterwards.
  • Yeah. There are about 10 styles knocking around to my knowledge which popped up in the first few weeks of public release and i'd expect the same and more to occur with the release of v1. For people who've been asking about developing styles i for one have been recommending they hold fire for a while, which is why there arent so many new'uns.

Even i'm considering doing a theme for v1, though, which should be pretty funny since i cant design to save my life. I'm just curious what an utter noob can come up with :)
  • Oooh, well at least we've got something to look forward to then :D

Might have a dabble at theming it myself, and I'm in a similar position to mini ;p
  • mini! design or I'll kill uuuuu!
  • I'm going to be trying to make one which'll be a wee tad different as soon as I have the time.

I've still got a style hibernating somewhere, which is based on a Wordpress port of the Stanch theme for Nuclues, but in red not yellow.... http://the-way-to-the-centre.org.uk/blog/images/stanch.jpg It should be good for anyone with a blog i reckon as it's fixed width (<760) and has a 1/3ish width column on the right.

I started a design but stopped "work" on it becuase of the changes for the next version. I'm no designer though. That said, I've got some ideas for a theme that I'll try and do once everything is set to go.
  • i too started working on some themes, but stopped when the xhtml and css started getting major changes. once version 1 comes out, i'll be creating themes out the ass!
  • Mmmm brown themes, great.
  • Not to jump on the bandwagon or anything, but I'm working on a theme too. I'm just not sure if I want to continue if it's going to be unusable with v1.0

    I would wait. For sure.
  • Thanks, it sounds like it's going to be much nicer to design for.
  • i cant wait to get my hands on the minivanilli theme and change it around too.

Minivanilli is dead, and hasn't been updated in ages.

Which is sad, because it was a great design, and I think would scare beginners a lot less than the default theme.
  • I'm sure mark will get it updated when he has this release out his hair.
  • I never saw minivanilli at all. Is a preview still available anywhere?
