Members who already have passwords

I have a couple of applications where members already have passwords for those applications.

I would really like members to be able to move from the applications to my Vanilla Forum, without registering or logging in - I could pass in SESSION variables or COOKIES - or whatever...

Before I start hacking into the VF code to see how it's done - is there a simple answer out there already?

Thanks, I shall look into that.

I was thinking of transferring info between databases, moving / amending data, but this comes from the other direction, and should be better.
