Any insight on how to convert from FudForum to Vanilla?

edited August 2012 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

Hello,

currently I am using Fudforum for my community board but I would like to migrate over to Vanilla and I was wondering if there are any tools or information you might be able to share to help make the data migration a little less painful?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'd be extremely skeptical of that service.

You can contact sales@vanillaforums.com if you'd Vanilla to handle the import. I don't know of an existing way to do this.

  • Thanks, will see if they chime in here or not.

Found a paid service that advertises that they will do the conversion, but thought I'd see if there were any existing options first. The site I found is: http://gconverter.com/fudforum-to-vanilla/

Why would you be skeptical of their service? Aside from the obvious possibility of having your data manipulated/spammed. What few reviews/mentions of them I have found have all been positive. Not trying to start a flame war, just curious why you think it would be a bad idea.

I'll reach out to sales@vanillaforums.com as well, but from reading their documentation on the importing tool, I did not see FUDForum listed, so not sure if they can help or not. Especially since this will be a self-hosted forum.

  • they may not have a tool but they certainly could figure out how to manually do it for you :) lol. meaning of course they could.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

  • @mindblender reaching out to "them" .. erm @lincoln is Vanilla. So I figure he may well know ;)
