Moving forum to another directory

Hi, still new to this system, and like it more each day.
So.. I placed it in a directory just to check it out initially, and started doing mods and such and now that I find that I'm going to stick with it, I want to move it, 'cause I want to build a landing page, for other options besides the forum, mostly bad planning on my part. Anyway.. so I'm thinking and with advise from others, just re-installing new a new directory, but my question (finally) is what files should I recopy over to this directory from the current system with all the mods. I have some themes and plugins/apps that I've installed and some changes in some of the .css files and such.. so just looking for the easiest way to do this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

  • Just upload and install everything like you did the first installation then just copy paste over the stuff you modified. Like if you modified a theme, just copy the whole thing over to the new one. Same with plugins. Or just ftp it and overwrite the existing one. Any way that is how I would do it, but someone else might have a better idea. :)

  • It's either re-installing, like VrijVlinder says or move over the files to the new directory and then : delete /cache/*.ini files.
    I think re-installing is easier.
After re-installing just move over the plugins 1 by 1 and then activate them of course (new database, so you need to activate / install those plugins)

    Then move over the themes.

    Everything step-by-step.

Make backups between the steps of your database. It doesn't hurt to have good backups.

  • Thank you both for the help. So far, so good. One question, where are "discussions" held? I mean what folder/file?
    Thanks again
    Bill

  • /applications/vanilla/controllers/class.discussionscontroller.php

Promise you won't break into that file and manually alter things. It would become a small disaster to support that.

  • there are no folders that represent the url pattern, that is not how a modern MVC frameworks work.

after tot he dispatch it is sent to the app controller, which processes data using models and render a view.

    grep is your friend.

  • @bposner Discussion data is stored in your database. If you're looking to change how discussions looks, use a theme with some custom CSS to change it. There isn't a "discussions" file that you can edit.
