Sprites plugin not working under 2.0.18.8??

I try to figure out how this plugin is working..
The source code only tells Vanilla to include .css
So how this thing is working?
I notice this forum contain span class ... Sprite Sprite16 SpNotifications
How this is added into the forum code?

Sprites is still distributed through the Vanilla 2.1b1 release. It says it only requires 2.0.18.
As far as your question, a search through 2.0.18.4 code doesn't reveal this class being used anywhere. Looks like a 2.1 only thing (unless you modify your theme's html, not recommended for novices).

To tell you the truth, I can no longer find Sprites plugin in the site..
