A note on spam applicants and recent changes
The latest master branch of the Addons repository now contains updates to the Akismet and StopForumSpam plugins that are extremely effective against spam user applications. One of my sites which averages a new spam applicant every 3-4 minutes currently has a 100% perfect spam blocking rate using those 2 addons.
