Renaming Discussions

Is there a way to rename a discussion? If not, is there a way to create a new discussion and then move all of the existing comments from one discussion to another?

Answers

  • Yes. If you have permission to edit discussions, it will show up under the options on the /discussions view, or in the options of the first post in a discussion view.

The Edit button/link should point you to /vanilla/post/editdiscussion/IDNumber.

  • Thanks for the info. I noticed that the only way that the edit icon shows up is if you are in the Recent Discussions page (not the Home/Discussions page). Also, in the Recent Discussions page, the edit icon is available for all but the ones that I want to change.

The discussions that I want to change are at a second-level category.

  • It sounds like that category has custom permissions. Is this true?

You can check in /vanilla/settings/managecategories and clicking the edit button next to that category.

  • yep... it does... however, I turned on all of the permissions for that category.

  • Sorry... just checked... when I click on the edit category, the checkbox for the special permissions is not selected. So, nope.. doesn't have special permissions.

  • Fixed it. I decided to add special permissions and was able to edit it.

  • What version of Vanilla are you running?

What plugins do you have enabled?

Is there a way to tell what version is running? We're using the embedding feature, so we didn't compile it.

  • The version is listed on the bottom of the dashboard.

Is this the alpha version? We're using the "embed" tag to add the forum to our site. How do we point it to a non-alpha version?

  • are you on the hosted site? This forum is for the self hosted OS version.
