How can moderators remove/undo reactions: Spam and Abuse?

Hello :)

I would like to know how moderators of a vanilla forum can remove respectively undo the reactions "spam" and "abuse".

Is that possible at all or is the only person who can remove those reactions the one who has marked a message
with them in the first place?

  • Welcome to the community!

What version of Vanilla are you running?

What plugin are you using for reactions?

    Search first

Check out the Documentation! We are always looking for new content and pull requests.

Click on insightful, awesome, and funny reactions to thank community volunteers for their valuable posts.

  • Thank you for the welcome :)

Well I am not running the forum myself, I'm rather asking on behalf of a forum.

It is the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition Forum

So I guess I should inquire for the version and the plugin first?

This is running the SaaS version of vanilla, ask your forum administrator(/account holder) to post this here

Well I think we were asking ourselves the same question for this forum here lol , there is no way apparently to remove the reacted reactions except the one who reacted can remove them by re clicking it.

We got spammed with troll and spam and abuse reactions here and it took a long time before they removed them, but they could not remove the reacted reactions only the category of reactions, like troll, spam , abuse and off topic. Those were removed so as not to be used again, but that was only cosmetic, the stats stayed the same....

Those reactions should only be allowed for moderators to use anyway, people have a tendency to abuse them ..

That is exactly what we are experiencing on the Baldur's Gate Forum right now ;)

And when I googled a bit I found quite a few other vanillaforums who encountered the same problem...
And there does not seem to be an OBVIOUS way to remove/undo those reactions

Anyway I told the moderators about the link above and they told me (even before that) that they'll look into this matter.

I don't know if you can use phpmyadmin on vanillaforums.com. But that would be an easy way to undo reactions by spammers. Probably in some reactions or user table or meta depending on how they wrote the product.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

  • I don't know if the reactions work by registering permissions , they should. People should not be allowed access to negative reactions until they earn the trust of the community.

I think it should be permissions based who can react. And reactions should be editable by the admin. Admin should be able to go in and remove the reactions from spammers and banned users. Or delete the banned users and the reactions get deleted too.

We don't really know how they work since this is one of those proprietary plugins vanilla offers in the hosted solution . It is strange that they did not set up a way to edit them , only to turn them on or off.

You could always ask your account holder to contact support regarding this matter, I'm sure this should be a trivial request.

  • Hey,

I just wanted to let everybody know that our administrator managed to find a way to remove "abuse" and "spam" flags. So everything is all right now on our forum.

Thank you very much for your advices.

And I share the concern that setting "Spam" or "Abuse" should not be possible for just everyone...

Anyway, this can be closed now.

    Thank you

  • This should serve as an example that these types of reactions should be moderator only reactions . I think the way to achieve this is by putting in required permissions .

In my opinion , people should only have good reactions or not react at all!!!!!!!

no reaction = bad reactions so anytime people comment without leaving a good reaction, it means it is a bad reaction but without lingering side effects ........
