Upgrade from Vanilla 1.15a question*
joemad
New
I accidentally installed Vanilla 2 instead of upgrading and ended up with a blank forum even though I entered the mysql 5 database (that worked with my old install).
I had my old install in a folder called forum. After realizing that I had foolishly installed Vanilla 2 instead of upgrading; I deleted the vanilla folder and uploaded my back up to the forum folder. I now have hundreds of errors on the old install. I guess I really don't care about that. I'm just wondering if I can upgrade to vanilla 2 and keep all the old discussions etc.
Thanks!

Hi Joe,
If your old Vanilla is still Vanilla 1 you can upgrade, but I think it will take lots of steps. Can you tell which version was your old Vanilla version? Maybe keep old Vanilla 1 (working) as your archive and start (almost) over with Vanilla 2.0.18.10? Of course port over the users and categories etc.
I also think you can use the Vanilla Porter Plugin to export Vanilla 1 and then import it in a (working) Vanilla 2 install.

Thanks! I'm on Vanilla 1.1.5a. I'll try your options and report back in 2014
OK, I'll paste my google search results for reference for next year.

The porter tool should work without a valid vanilla install since it just scrapes the database.
