Use Vanilla into an existing website

Hello everyone, I am new to vanilla forums and also to web dev. I am creating a website which needs forum features also. I am in the process of creating it using dreamweaver, and here I feel the need of getting the readymade Vanilla forums for my website. I have set up the part of database for my website which includes user accounts and stuff. Can I use Vanilla forums on top of my existing database and website?
If yes, can you please provide me with some procedure if it's documented somewhere? Thanks a lot

Welcome to the community!
You can install Vanilla in the same MySQL database as your website as Vanilla uses the
GDN_
prefix for all tables. There won't be any conflicts unless your website uses the same prefix. The installation procedure for setting up the database is taken care of with the installer that comes with Vanilla that you can run via the web browser once you extract the Vanilla files into a separate folder from your website. The documentation on this website is a bit outdated and the images don't work, so here's the link to the community wiki, where you may find a lot of information and guides on using Vanilla: http://vanillawiki.homebrewforums.net/index.php/Main_Page
Add Pages to Vanilla with the Basic Pages app
Thank you for such a quick response and I will surely look into it! Also, Can I use the existing user accounts in my MySQL database to use for the forums too? Because I believe that's the major part of integrating forums into existing website, most of other things will be taken care by Vanilla itself I guess
What software does is your existing website run on? Is it custom made?
There are different ways to implement user integration across different web software, but it can be very complicated. If your existing software supports SSO via jsConnect, then you will be able to use one of the Vanilla plugins for sign in integration.
Also, there is a Vanilla plugin that supports importing data, including users, from other forum software if you decide to use Vanilla as the main software for your website: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/porter-core
Add Pages to Vanilla with the Basic Pages app
Currently I am testing the website using WAMP. The database and Login mechanism is all hand-made. I will also read about jsConnect you told and see if that can be used instead of default login mechanism.
While browsing the forum, I found this topic very similar and I wish to try the way jaredNZ has done using proxyConnect. However I am fairly new in all this and I don't know stuff like cookie-validation. Can anyone clear the process a bit?
You'll want to use jsConnect. proxyConnect is deprecated and very old.

I believe the version of this site implement md5 only not sha1, which might be a gotcha if they try to sign with sha1
grep is your friend.
Gah! Uploaded the latest. A lot of niceties have been added since 2011, wow.
