Vanilla 2.1b2 fires different events to distinguish between discussion bodies and comment bodies easily.
You might try the voting addon from the github repo. You can find it here:
https://github.com/vanillaforums/Addons/tree/master/plugins/Voting
If that doesn't work, then I can delve deeper.
As an aside, if you are working on the beta version, you should always try out the development version of plugins in that repo if the stable versions don't work.
