Word count in user profiles?

Just a suggestion, but for some communities (such as fiction ones) having a total tally of their word count in profiles would be cool. Perhaps as part of a general "user analytics" type plugin, maybe, with other totals such as images posted, characters posted, etc? But certainly in a way that's also made available to plugins like Member List.

I suppose it would need to have options to ignore stuff in blockquotes, too. But even if it could never be particularly accurate, it seems like a great alternative to postcount as an indicator of participation.

  • Add a word count field to the user table to store the denormalized data. Hook into comment and discussion models when they are saved. Update the word count field. be sure to take into account edits.

Alternatively, run a complex query to calculate it periodically and just cache the result.

    Interesting idea.
