Which reader ? there are many, if it is jquery here are some examples

    http://www.jquery4u.com/plugins/jquery-rss-feed-readers/

You would follow the instructions about how to add it to your site.

Vanilla has a built-in RSS feed. You can find it at http://forum.example.com/discussions.rss

we are trying to help you, @frindman perhaps you can find someone who can speak your language and translate exaclty what you want into english.

Your words don't explain what you want.

see vrijvlinder's comment if you want to add other feeds from other sites and create your own plugin.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

I guess he wants to show rss feeds from other blogs on his own site. And because he only wants to show them, that plugin is no help: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/magpiefeeds-plugin

Instead maybe a module that shows rss feeds would be what he wants?

that would be my latest guess. or is it feeds from other sites as well or only his own in a panel? sounds like your next plugin r_j :)

I promoted the "help me" message. Since it was a classic. :) so it goes into the best of comments.

I've already thought about that on my way home :D
With the links you've provided, it would be almost trivial, but by now I'm playing with the calendar...

I made a simple plugin using the samples from the url I posted above To add any feed you want to your forum panel, just add the url of the rss feed in the feed.js and FeedEk.js file.

    http://vanillaforums.org/addon/feedek-plugin-1.0

If you don't like it, you can use this plugin as a guide for how to make a plugin for your purpose.

no, that error is for the magpie plugin. You must disable Magpie plugin.

I fixed the Magpie plugin so it won't cause error and it will enable. This Magpie plugin is supposed to start new discussions but I am not sure how it works. However it enables and you can add a feed url in the settings for it.

If someone recommends a plugin, it does not mean they have used it. Please try to only recommend plugins that you have tested.

For future reference the Magpie plugin in the Addons does not enable due to this error. If someone can replace it with this one it would be nice. @Lincoln

If anyone is looking for a plugin that automatically starts discussions this magpie is great. Only issue is that the body of the feed is missing and the author is a [Deleted User] . other than that it works ok to fill your forum with discussions from that feed.

I actually just fixed those issues I will upload another zip in a few...

Ok here is an enhanced copy of the Magpie plugin. It now fills it up really good with the body of the feed. I set it so the author is User 1 but you can change that if you want.

The category is still called Root. Will figure out where that comes from...

  • Hey vrijvlinder... I've been trying to get any kind of RSS plugin to work with Vanilla 2.1. Even tried your modified MagpieFeeds. But I can't get it to work. It just sits there and doesn't update (Updated: never). Do you have any hints what goes wrong here? Is there any log I can have a look at? I've been at this for 8 hrs straight now and ready to give up...

    Thanks,
    sp

  • you may have to run checkfeed and update manually.

you may be having a timeout issue.

It works for me, you can also try using FeedEK it adds a feeds module to the panel and is easier to work with.

  • Thanks for your answers. Excuse the dumb question, but I really have no idea how to run checkfeed or update manually... Can you push me in the right direction?

I will also have a look at FeedEK, though I prefer having the feed as discussions in a category.
