Vanilla release : 2.1 or 2.2

Hello, I'm new in Vanilla and I'm looking for addons and themes. Some themes need 2.1+ and other need 2.2+.

I've search where I can download releases, and I understood this shoud be done on github and not on this website.
When I look in releases on github, I'm surprise by dates of releases:

• 2.0.18.0 (official ?) : 4 months ago
• 2.1 (b3) : 5 days ago
• 2.2.3.6 : 7 months ago

can you explain me the status of 2.1 and 2.2 releases ?

If a theme requires 2.2, you'll require a developer to use it, methinks.
