Moderation permissions - what do they mean?

I'd like to have moderators on my forum but I'm concerned that if they delete users or threads (very necessary task due to spam) they could accidentally or maliciously delete honest users/threads. Can someone please explain what permissions I should set up for an efficient, safe level of moderator permissions?

@FabulousPanda The Change Log should allow you to reverse any deletions. Beware that the changelog may fail if you delete a user with hundreds of posts. In general, I think the defaults are good, and you can add AdvancedNotifications.Allow too so they can get category-based notifications (do not give that to all members - it will murder performance).

The default moderator permissions are pretty much what you would want, imo.
Moderators can't edit users unless you specifically give that role such a permission.
They have to have permission to edit/delete threads, otherwise they can't really do their job.
@whu606 is there not any way to retrieve things a moderator has deleted?

Yes, Admins can restore posts deleted via the Change Log in the Dashboard, but I don't think that allows you to undo actions made on users.
