What is missing in vanillaforums
I state that for years I manage very large forum using vbulletin but I also used phpbb, smf and mybb.
I find it really vanillaforum a forum well done but lack the basic things that makes you decide to install it in your site.
The first thing is a graphics well done ... I installed Bootstrap theme and it is very nice. Why do not you put the theme of defoult?

The whole point is for people to make and decorate their themes the way they want.
It would be silly if all forums looked identical.
I am not sure what basic things you refer too. Vanilla has the same as other forums in the form of plugins and applications.
The only way to make a decision is to install it and play with it.

One goal in having such a plain default theme is to kick you in the pants to create one. We don't want 1,000 identical Vanilla forums out there (much like the vBulletin disease where every forum looks the same except for a few color changes). We favor hackability, not sameness.
That said, I do think more core-distributed themes are in the cards once we settle a few more things in our templating system, if for nothing else than as a showcase to see what's possible.
The problem is that almost all the people who decide to put on-line forum, do not know then make changes to the files or create themes or mod ...
For example, I have more than 150,000 users in my forum but I do not know assolutametne languages php or css ...
This is very detrimental for me in deciding to use vanillaforums.
Un sito ha bisogno la propria identità. Quindi, in realtà si tratta di un'abilità che si dovrebbe avere, o incaricare qualcuno di farlo per voi. In caso contrario, è possibile utilizzare un forum generico con limitata marchio personale. Come @Linc dice che le persone hanno di creare temi e caricare loro di avere varietà.
Non è davvero vaniglia, avere troppo in bundle con il nucleo.

Un formo spesso con temi e mod e un minimo di immagini prende un identità propria senza dover saper programmare...

Pensare che tutti sappiano modifiare i codici è una cosa assolutamente sbagliata.
Anche perchè un progetto (soprattutto gratis) viene proseguito se vieni utilizzato da migliaia di persone... e sono poche le persone che sanno programmare e quindi vengono escluse moltissime persone...
A mio modesto parere vaniallaforum è un forum eccezzionale che però può essere usato da poche persone...
Where did I say everyone knows everything?. Vanilla is nieche yes, but ti doesn't change th fact the css, and HTML are essential skills worth learning the basics.

Per fare le cambie tipiche, non deve sapere proprio css o php.
Per la maggior parte delle modifiche, è sufficiente creare un file css vuoto, e aggiungere solo le modifiche necessarie.
Non sapevo quasi nulla di css, prima ho cominciato a usare Vanilla, ma con l'aiuto di utenti su questo forum, ho imparato abbastanza per apportare le modifiche di cui avevo bisogno.

vBulletin is a paid software, if you can afford that, you can afford to pay someone to make changes for you, when you need them.

In realtà, non è completamente sbagliata. Gestire un qualunque sito senza conoscere assolutamente nulla di HTML e CSS (tralasciando il PHP, che non è sempre indispensabile) è difficilissimo, non solo con Vanilla Forums. Conosco altri software, e posso dire con certezza che non è vero che essi consentono di "fare tutto" senza toccare il codice, le opzioni che offrono sono decisamente limitate (ed è ovvio che sia così, non è possibile sviluppare un'interfaccia utente che consenta la stessa flessibilità della scrittura manuale di codice).
Questa è un'affermazione imprecisa. Le persone che sanno programmare sono tantissime, e sono ancora di più coloro che hanno conoscenze almeno basilari di HTML e CSS, i quali non sono linguaggi di programmazione e sono decisamente facili da imparare (un mio collega, senza alcuna base di programmazione, ha impiegato due giorni per riuscire a padroneggiarli al punto da modificare il template del nostro sito).
