New extension: Audioscrobblerizer (last.fm)

edited February 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hey,

Here's another extension for you, similar to the flickr extension. It adds your most recent played songs into your forum account profile. The audioscrobbler username can be entered via the 'Personal Information' page (same as flickrizer).

Demo Here | Download Here

Also in the highly unlikely event that your webserver is behind a proxy (it just so happens that mine is) there is some support for getting the audioscrobbler data via the proxy, take a look in the default.php code.

    Holy tunes, Batman!
This is a fantastic extension. I love music and sharing music. This will be used a lot on my board. Thanks so much. ^_^

I'm off to test it now.

Edit: Worked fine first time - no problem.
  • Awesome, thanks :)

I'll stick it in the addon directory once a few more people have tried it out
  • wow.... this is great. the add-ons department is out of control. ...loving it

    Alex..

very nice, but here's a problem I've had with other last.fm plugins (for Wordpress, or simply using something like feedforall to output an RSS feed on an HTML page): last.fm doesn't cache the tracks, so after a while, when you look at the feed, it will be blank. Does this extension cache the songs?

[I actually don't have my forum setup to test if it works yet.. I'm considering switching over 900+ users from punbb]

    thanks!
  • shaweet. awesome work man.
  • @lament, I used a RSS parser called lastRSS which apparently caches the feed, however only for short periods of time (although I haven't tested this, but it should work...).

The tracks disappearing will always be an issue no matter what, as it's only 'recently played tracks' rather than 'last 10 tracks'. I don't really think there's any practical solution to that I'm afraid :(

  • Sweet extension, this will get a lot of use on my forum.
  • yeah I'm using feedforall elsewhere and having the same issue.. extension looks great tho!

This is a great extension; it's working nicely on my forum.

Just one little thing: messages like "Audioscrobbler does not have your latest song status" should probably be included in the language definitions at the top of the file.
  • Whoops, forgot about that :) It's fixed now for future downloads
  • nice work bigred, Just out of curiousity though does this extension allow for caching so each and every hit doesn't overwhelm the AS servers?
  • remember when I asked that already lech? ;)
  • Oh, hey, it looks like you did. Sorry, lament I simply skimmed through without noticing. Ok, that question is answered, disregard my question :)
  • Cool extension!! You wanna know what could make it even cooler?? Album covers!!! :D
  • I don't see that you can pull album art from the feeds..
  • i think caching would be more important to have than album covers...at this point anyway.
