I use a crappy plugin I wrote called BlanderBlog. You can find it on github here: http://github.com/hgtonight/Plugin-BlanderBlog.
Articles is coming out soonish: https://github.com/shadowdare/Vanilla-App-Articles.

Can't wait for Articles.
Also, I don't think BlanderBlog is crappy at all, the option to hide the category is cool.
But there is an incompatibility with Emotify, which uses the deprecated
Object
EventArgument which you surpress in the discussion/blog.php view. When uncommenting line 42 in that file, it works again.

The features for the first release of Articles are complete, right? Will alpha-test it right now.
I use a modified NillaBlog, but I don't know what I did to make it compatible to 2.1 anymore, and it's already integrated it with another plugin.
I might might have to copy your modified exclude-a-category-categoriesmodule for a plugin i'm working on...

The Articles app is almost ready. The main features have been implemented and the app is ready for alpha testing, covering specific tests, suggestions, code review, and clean up. Anyone who is interested in testing it out should only use it on a development/test install of Vanilla. Thanks for helping us test it out, @Bleistivt!

Thanks for all the replies!
@hgtonight: I'll give BlanderBlog a try. It looks great on your site so I'm sure I'll be satisfied with it. I don't use Emotify so no problem there.
I'm not big on alpha testing (I just started using Vanilla yesterday so I wouldn't be any help anyway) but Articles looks promising and I'll be eagerly waiting to try a stable release.
I haven't upgraded to 2.1 yet. Are there any issues with the current plugin?
There was an error rendering this rich post.
@ddumont according to the plugin 2.1 compatibility list one user has found it doesn't work out of the box.

When no blog category is chosen, it produces a fatal error (in_array, second parameter not array).
Also, the styling is a little off, but that is no problem as there is the option to use disable the styling.
So it's totally useable, it just has to be adapted for the new default style.
