You would have to modify the plugin to support Articles.
Looks like this plugin supports addons generating sitemap types: https://github.com/vanilla/addons/blob/22de3b51190c3d8a1dc550729de157873464233f/plugins/Sitemaps/class.sitemaps.plugin.php#L171-L177

I think it's the same that I have installed but modified. I have tried and it does not create xml for articles
For now I have removed xml sitemap generation. Google should find articles ...
