Some confusion regarding annoucnments

Hi! I am a new user to Vanilla Forums. As I understand it, "announcements" are essentially stickied posts on the top of a category. However, I want to be able to have announcements start at the bottom rather than the top. ie. I make an announced discussion called "X1" and then I create another announcement called "X2". I want X1 to be on top because it is the most important and X2 to be on the bottom.

I would like to be able to reorder announcements or "pin" and announcement to the top of the the category.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

announcements can be re-ordered by date of last comment. or if no comments (insertion date of discussion). You can always create a new announcement and delete the old one to cause it to rise to the top.

you can bump them if you want to re-order.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

  • Right but then I have to have comment in the thread saying "hump" which would show up in recent discussions. So there is no way to re-order announcements through sinking?

Sinking doesn't update the last comment date (which is the default sort order), so new discussions naturally float over them.

EDIT - This is a good discussion of the differences between sticky and announcing something.

    NO.

    yes, the bump plugin

    http://vanillaforums.org/addon/bump-plugin

it essentially resets the DateLastComment to the time of the bump causing the discussion to rise.

will NOT add a comment and will "bump" the discussion to the TOP
Frankly, it seems very simple and easy.

So there is no way to re-order announcements through sinking?

Sinking allows a discussion thread to be commented upon without causing it to rise when it is commented upon again.

so yes. you can maintain the order with sinking and/or bumping.

sink it - to stick it in place

if you want to maintain this order

    announcement A
    announcement B
    Announcement C

You can sink all 3 announcements so they always remain in that order even if someone comments upon B or C

  • Haha sorry. Hump = Bump!

Awesome, that works. I misunderstood how sinking functioned. Thank you for your help.
