Version 2.1.8p2
I'm having an issue where users log in and navigate around, they don't show as logged in until they refresh the page they're on. I've seen a few threads similar to this but not on 2.1. Anyone have a few places to start looking to find the cause of this. Thanks.

You are running a version of Vanilla that contains security vulnerabilities.
If you don't want to upgrade to 2.2, at the least you should upgrade to the latest secure version of 2.1 http://vanillaforums.org/addon/vanilla-core-2.1.13
It may be that the upgrade also resolves your issue, but it should be done as a priority, regardless.
Thanks. I've upgraded the forum. The issue is still there.
all users, or those with certain browsers.
I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.
Seems to happen on Chrome desktop and mobile. And Firefox desktop. Basically every browser I've tested it on. Seems to happen a lot if you hit the back button, the page you navigate back to doesn't show you logged in. Also, when you first sign in, the page doesn't refresh and show you're logged in

These links don's seem relevant to my problem unless you're telling me users can't use the back button on the forum. I'm not testing in Safari or using a CDN.
Does your forum run on a sub-domain? This sounds like a cookie scoping issue.
